Dave's Story

Let's start with memories: Originally sent to Forums: "Kendall Park" on Classmates.com Ah yes, the fond memories of Kendall Park. I lived at 4 Kingsley Rd from 1962 until 1977 then 15 Newman Rd until 1978. I returned briefly to 4 Kingsley in 1979 and 1980. Between then, "ZOX" rented my mom's house. Anyone remember the teen festivals at the park? Loads of cool live music. Down to Earth, Trillium Garden. Also some movies (American Graffiti comes to mind). I sold soda, popcorn, frozen candy bars and cool-pops from 1966 until 1973 when I opened D & R Bicycles with Rick Behrend. That was our backyard business until 1977. Some of my fondest memories are sledding down Wilson Farm behind the old 7-11. Jimmy and Billy McCallum, Carey Dodd and my sister Chris and I found a car hood and decided it was better than our sleds. Jimmy held on to the car latch and we all held on to Jimmy and spun down out of control! That was awesome and we did it again - only the next time we landed in the creek and nearly froze to death. I remember getting in trouble with Carey for setting a fire in the storm pipe under Kingsley Rd. We were about 10 years old. Yes I remember them spraying for mosquitoes - god knows what we were breathing. Some people even rode after the truck - pray for them now! LOL I also remember them flushing the fire hydrants. That was fun. Does anyone remember hurricanes D...Expand for more
oria and Gloria? I actually walked along Constable Rd as the knee deep water was rushing into the creek. Like a Niagara Falls from a child's perspective. I can¿t believe that Chris nor I didn¿t get sucked in. MEMORIES??? Riding a bicycle fast down Kingsley Road, Saturdays at the KP Roller Rink with all the gang - live organ music. The Hovers and Celis. Jumping the creek and exploring the woods. Walking from Halsey to the trailer park, spinning down an empty garbage can at Sandhills Park, garbage picking at spring and fall clean-ups (we had the white station wagon with the big green box on top). And Halloween! I knew most everyone on the block (Cranston and New Road). And you could walk or ride a bicycle everywhere. I remember partying in the woods behind Wheeler Rd, Jeff Posten (stoner), seeing the farm on Hastings Rd; New Rd/Pine Rd. got flooded all the time, I was catching tadpoles and crayfish at Kingsley Park, swinging until my fingers cramped up, skated on the basketball court, cutting through people's backyards, making stink bombs, pogo-sticking, having a mini-golf/carnival in our backyard, playing kick-the-can, building a go-cart, big wheels and when Sesame Street came out around 1972! (1987) I almost bought the house on New Rd and Constable Rd (I think the Hahn's)? Ah yes - the simple and safe days of Kendall Park! I welcome your memories as well¿¿..Dave
